This is mainly a gear demo channel. I love gear and love talking about gear! I especially love affordable gear that sounds great! So theres a lot of Epiphones and Peaveys around here lol! But I like the pricey stuff as well I can't help it. I also like to post the occasional performance video where I just play a song or two. Music, guitars, and all the toys the come with it!

just recently got a great deal on this Harley Benton and I am very surprised on how well it plays and sounds. It easily rivals my Fenders.

Peavey Bandit SOUNDS MUCH BETTER than Peavey Renown
Переглядів 9012 місяці тому
I bought this Peavey Renown recently and I started to realize how much I was turning knobs much more than playing. So I compared it to this old Bandit and realized it just sounds harsh that's all there is to it sadly. Maybe a different speaker could help but I'm not sure. Might be aging components also. Cause otherwise, its a really cool amp! The guitar is my new Epiphone Inspired By Gibson 195...

Just got this new Epiphone 1959 ES-355 Custom in and it is INCREDIBLE. Great rounded C profile neck that feels amazing. Big clear tone from the Gibson Custombucker pickups. I hope to do more clips soon.

Brief demo of the ole Crate Telluride acoustic guitar amp. I didn’t change any settings because I was really enjoying the sound as it was. And I really love the reverb!
PHRED LIGER, Marshall MG100HDFX, EVH Ivory 2x12 cab

Demo of both a Marshall MG100HDFX AND a Phred Liger, which is a replica of the Alembic Tiger Jerry Garcia used to play. This is base model with no electronic, pickup or hardware upgrades and it STILL plays phenomenally and the pickus are very clear and Punchy. I am NOT paid to do this demo. I'm only doing it because I LOVE this guitar and I think everyone should get one!! And I DO mean everyone...

I know I know.... I'm on a crazy Peavey kick who know when it'll stop lol. It's so cool though they all have their own personalities! They're a lot like kittens in that way.

PEAVEY SPECIAL 150 clean Strat tone
Переглядів 4244 місяці тому
Playing a Fender 40th Anniversary Strat through the clean channel of this really nice Peavey Special 150. Incredibly sweet clear clean channel on this amp! The drive channel is also really crunchy but smooth and crisp.. not harsh great hot rodded Marshall tone... but for some reason, the bass, mid, and treble don't affect the drive channel only the presence control does.

Peavey Bandit Solo Series 1st impressions

Just bought this early '80s Peavey Bandit Solo Series amp. Plugging in and seeing how it sounds. The cleans are typical crystal clear beautiful Peavey sound. The drive is very "vintage" sounding but can be tightened up somewhat with a good drive pedal. I love this amp and every guitarist should have one!

I think the Renown sounds way better, by a lot. Like, no comparison better.😐
Renowns are great! Like the hair on the distortion with it. Maybe it'll get the same exalted status the Bandits have in the future..
I have a peavey Triumph 120 head from the late 80's in perfect condition. Do you want to borrow it and have some fun?!
Thank you! Yes I'll take you up on that sometime.
Thanks again!
I wonder what it would sound like with the picjups lowered. ?
Bandit for the win! Sounds like some designer tried to make the other one sound like a fender copy. They shoulda stuck to their big Peavey Tone
Holy smacks! That sounds great!
Love it!
I agree....i had both like you do
I love my PEAVEY SPECIAL 112 !!!! best gigging amp ever!
I love Bandits. I have a 2004 Bandit 112 transtube (made is USA). I still gig with it. these are built like a tank. every rock/metal guitarist should have one Bandit in collection.
WTF
Nice video. I've got a Weber Axis speaker in my Bandit 65. However, I'm pretty sure that Scorpion has been reconed, so not quite stock. A Scorpion should have a non-ribbed, non-seamed cone. That one apppears to be ribbed and seamed like an Eminence 1258 cone. The guy at Hempopotamus sells a recone kit for Scorpions with that style of cone, could be his work.
Every subtle nuance of a guitar is lost when you run a wireless system.
Slight clarity advantage to the cream back! Scorpion a bit scooped. But hey it’s been around the block :)
There are so many jewels they made ! Getting recognition from a new generation of players already seeing prices rise !!! ❤
I have a Bandit 75 from the mid / late 80's. It is damn LOUD. and heavy. I love the clean channel though. Great amp.
OK, people who make videos, please learn how to mic things. You didn’t mute your camera’s mic so we can’t actually hear the amp, we hear the room the amp is in.
I have 1 Bandit with a creamback in it. Love it
Not much of a peavey guy but if I has to play one I would prefer an 80s era Heritage. Much better sounding amp with much better response to your playing style.
Back in 89 my band opened for a band/ artist whose videos were at the time on heavy rotation on MTV. My gear at the time consisted of a Japanese copy of a Gibson Flying V and a good ole peavey bandit. lol.
Ended up preordering that guitar in ebony. Really excited to get it in at some point.
Listening to peavey amps is akin to rubbing a cheese grater across your head.
😅
I have an old 1987 Bandit 75 with the original Scorpion 8-ohm speaker, and it's big brother the Special 150. Love them both! Great transistor amps and plenty loud!
Yes I have a Special 150 from that era. I love it!
Enjoyable video, thanks for sharing! Perhaps the Renown just needs a different speaker. Eminence describes the 1518 has having big low-end and mellow top-end. I wonder what a Black Widow would sound like? Looking at the manual's for the Renown and Bandit on Peavey's website, the Renown has an active tone circuit (meaning flat is with everything at noon) while the Bandit has a passive tone stack (most likely where Bass and Treble are nearly all boost-only and the Mid is nearly cut-only). The two circuits behave quite differently. That written, I think both sound great. I'm curious how they sound together!
Uuuhhhhh is there something wrong with the reknown? Sounds like that amp needs time on the bench
Yes I think something isn't right. Maybe a different speaker or fix the tone stack. I've found identical Peaveys sounding different and/or worse. Probably due to aging components I imagine.
I prefer the bigger sound of the Renown! Great in the room sound and detail from that Legend speaker
Bandit all the way
Inspired By Gibson Custom *** for the love of god
Nice Guitar , I have the very same guitar awesome playing as well , many thumbs up :-)
Lovely! Way back when, I didn't care for Ebony fingerboards so I never considered an ES-355. Having owned a few Carvin guitars with Ebony fingerboards, my opinion has changed. I saw this and got excited, but $1300 for an Epiphone scares me as much as current MIM Fender pricing.
Yeah, I hate to say but, in a way, these aren't a good buy if: A. you're just going to get a Gibson in the end... or B. Already have guitars 😅 Better to save your money. Unfortunately I couldn't stop myself from getting the 355 lol 💸
My cherry one is on the way! Super stoked!
Hope you have it by now and it's a good one! 🎸
@@dcooper830 I definitely do, stellar guitars! After a string change and a setup it was ready to rip!
Nice demo! I desperately want one of these! The price is nothing to sneeze at, but it seems like a smoking deal for what it gives you. Awesome instrument.
Sounds really nice!
Thank you 🙏
i just picked one of these things up from a guitar center except the tolex is black and its a great sounding little amp i got it for 225 bucks u cant beat that
Sounds great! Any plans to do a video on the original crate enclosed Crate IIR we see hiding off to the side?
Thank you! Yes I'm hoping to get a video on that this week
@@dcooper830Thanks! I remember when those amps first came out and, being a tube amp snob at the time, didn't give them a second thought. I finally embraced Crates in the early 2000s when I bought an XT65R (GC's and Musician's Friend's version of the GT65R). IMHO a great sounding amp that has remained in my stable long after many, many, many more sought after and expensive amps have come and gone.
Great video! Thanks for sharing!! Do you know which coil of the middle pickup is active when it is split? Thanks!
Thank you! As far as which coil is active when split in the middle pickup I'm not sure.
@@dcooper830OK, thanks for the reply. I'm embarking on a guitar project that will feature a humbucker in the middle position. I'll just experiment and let my ears decide.
Lol “ go and get one right now” I might just do that. I found one near me for less than $200
Sounds great to me.
Thank you 🙏
This sounds awesome as im a fan of good 90s solid state amps like Peavey and Crate ive never tried Randall as their prices have skyrocketed since dimebag Darrel it seems but im sure they are great i dont like tube amps price or their fragile nature and upkeep costs i llke the plug and go nature of good solid state amps and this sounds great
Fortunately, my ears are so bad I can't tell the difference between tube and solid state lol. After years of dealing with tube changes, leaky caps, bias drift, red plating, and thermal breakdown of solder joints... I have NO tube amps anymore.
@@dcooper830 i see and hear youtube videos of tubes vs solid state and usually on dirty i prefer the solid state tone although i know on youtube sound is supposed to be different than in person but i only usually only prefer a tibe sound on clean and i very rarely use clean and if i do i like chorus and effects to make it not so boring sounding,im not putting clean tone down i love clean tones but i like the dirt channel way more usually or a good dirt pedal which dirt pedals are usually sood state,im also cheap and dont like being extra cautious around my amp i like if they can take a beating and still play just fine lol
I like both speakers but i wonder if youve tried a wgs retro 30 in your bandit as this guy on here called Johnny Roggio put one in his bandit and gets the best Van Halen tone from a 112 ive ever heard by doing so if you like that sort of tone, thank you for this video as i own a teal stripe bandit with a scorpion and now i see its not a priority to change out the scorpion as i didnt hear a big difference in sound between the 2 and i love celestion speakers but i think the scorpion held its own pretty well so thank you
Yes I've had really good luck with Warehouse speakers one time I put a quad of Veteran 30s into a Marshall MG cab and it was a massive Improvement. It really sounded incredible.
@@dcooper830 thank you for responding as i really like the stock scorpion in my teal stripe bandit but im thinking of buying and trying the retro 30 cause that brown sound sounds great from Johnny Roggio's video but i really liked your creamback also i just thought the scorpion wasnt too far behind in sound even though i thought the creamback did sound a bit better
Ha! You played Armed and Ready! Great song. Schenker is awesome!
Yes!! He's one of my all time favorites.
@@dcooper830 Mine too. Unique! He had a slack period but then the old Schenks came back! Woo hoo!
I got my Peavey Bandit back in 1980 when I was 16. It would have been one of the first models and I still have it today. Would never part with it. I love that amp !
I wish I'd had one back then. I had an old Ampeg Reverberocket that was constantly in the shop with problems. It's why I have 85 amps now 😅
now try crate preamp > valve poweramp > Vintage celestions better than CC deville tone
The market for old Crate amps is gonna skyrocket after a few thousand views😊
De cuantos ohms deberian ser las bocinas del gabitene respecto al amplificador. Ya que creo la bocina del amplificador es de 4 ohoms. Espero respuesta. Gracias, saludos desde Monterrey mexico
Another great example of how much speakers matter.
If someone is looking for a Crate amp, he's got them all, stop searching for one! lol :P
Does the 8" speaker turn off when the 2x12 is connected?
Yes it turns off when connecting to the cab.
Further proof that speakers are by far the most important part of one's tone...
I can hear SpecterSounds Glenn now 😅
